March 2024 - Women's History, Reading, Nutrition

Dear Cavalier Community,

Welcome March!  It is hard to believe we are more than halfway through the third quarter of the school year!  Time flies when you are having fun!  As your proud Superintendent, I continue to be grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff, families, and community of Carrollton Public Schools. It remains a great day to be a Cavalier!

As we embrace the month of March, let us celebrate March Is Reading Month and the joys of reading.  Let’s honor the contributions of women throughout history in recognition of Women's History Month.  Let’s focus on healthy eating in recognition of National Nutrition Month.  As we prepare for the conclusion of the third marking period, let’s concentrate on finishing on a strong note.

Reflecting on continuous improvement, I am thrilled to share some exciting updates with you:

Our elementary and middle schools now boast a new electronic sign to enhance communication.

A recent parking lot analysis has been conducted to help with congestion and improve traffic flow for everyone's convenience.

Additionally, our commitment to safety remains steadfast with the installation of two-way film on all of the entrances and some windows across the district, and there have been many upgrades to our camera system. These enhancements reflect our dedication to creating a secure and efficient learning environment for all.

Stay tuned for more information about improvement efforts in the upcoming edition of the Community Connection near the end of the month.

As you consider your involvement in the school community, please save the date for these important March events:

Thursday, March 7th, the Kindergarten Registration Event will be a wonderful opportunity for new students to join our Cavalier family.  (4 - 6 pm, JB Griffin)

Tuesday, March 12th, the Winter Sports Banquet will celebrate the hard work and dedication of our student athletes at Carrollton High School.  (5:30 pm, CHS cafeteria)

Monday, March 18th, the regular Board Meeting will present an opportunity for learning about what is happening in the school district and how decisions are made by our Board of Education. (6:30 pm, CHS library)

Tuesday, March 19th, Parent-Teacher Conferences will provide our families valuable insight into our students' progress and provide resources to support families. (4pm - 7:30 pm, all buildings)

Also on March 19th, our Community Forum will offer a platform for open dialogue and collaboration on this month’s topic of safety. (5:30 pm, CMS cafeteria)

I personally invite you to our second Community Forum that will focus on a topic that is important to us all: Safety. Join us as we discuss and address safety measures, protocols, and initiatives aimed at ensuring the well-being of our students, staff, and community members. Your participation and input are crucial as we work together to create a secure and nurturing environment for everyone.  Let’s continue to #BuildingStrongerTogether.

As always, I am available to you. I welcome the opportunity to meet, listen, and share ideas about ways to improve the whole child, whole family, and whole community experience for our students.  Please feel free to contact me by phone at 989-754-1475, via email at tpeterson@gocavs.net, or a visit to central office by appointment.
