chalkboard with yellow and orange flowers that says April 2024

Dear Cavalier Community,

Welcome April! I hope this message finds you well.  Spring has sprung and with it comes the excitement of the last leg of the 2023-2024 school year!  As your dedicated Superintendent, I remain grateful for the opportunity to work in partnership and serve the students, staff, families, and community of Carrollton Public Schools. I absolutely love being a Cavalier!

April is state assessment month all across Michigan. These important assessments help our educators measure student progress, identify areas for improvement in teaching and curriculum, and ultimately help improve student achievement.  This year all state assessments except for WorkKeys will be digital administrations versus the traditional paper and pencil format. Our Cavaliers will participate as follows: 6th and 7th graders will take the M-STEP and our 8th graders will take the PSAT 8.  At both of our high schools, 9th - 11th graders will take the PSAT and SAT.  In addition, 11th graders will take the M-STEP and WorkKeys assessments.  We wish all of our students and staff the best.  We look forward to using the results to continue building a quality program of study for our students.

As you consider ways to be involved in the school community this month, please save the date for these important April events:

●     Thursday, April 11th, our third Community Forum  will offer a platform for open dialogue about mental health, in the CMS cafeteria, 5:30 - 7:00 pm.

●     Monday, April 15th, the regular Board Meeting will present an opportunity for learning about what is happening in the school district and how decisions are made by our Board of Education. (6:30 pm, CHS library)

●     Thursday, April 25th, the District Resource Fair, formerly known as the elementary Parent Fair, will be an opportunity for families to learn ways to improve mental health, get resources.

I personally invite you to our third Community Forum that will focus on a topic that is important for us all: Mental Health. Join us as we discuss mental health and share the resources available to students.  Your participation and input remain crucial as we work together to create a secure and nurturing environment for everyone.  Let’s continue to #BuildingStrongerTogether.

As always, I am available to you. I welcome the opportunity to meet, listen, and share ideas about ways to improve the whole child, whole family, and whole community experience for our students.  Please feel free to contact me by phone at 989-754-1475, via email at tpeterson@gocavs.net, or a visit to central office by appointment.

With Cavalier Pride,
