February 7, 2023

Good afternoon Cavalier Family:

Today, a number of Michigan school districts were affected by false reports of an active shooter on their campuses. It was first reported that impacted schools received internet-based phone calls with threats that have not been credible or real. These incidents are part of a hoax known as “swatting” that is targeting schools across the state. Swatting incidents are threats made to schools with the purpose of triggering a response by police and first responders – instilling fear and panic throughout school communities while disrupting public safety agencies.

While Carrollton Public Schools did not experience this issue directly, we know many of
our families are understandably concerned about school safety. Please know that our first
priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We take all reports of
potential threats seriously and make every effort to ensure safe learning environments. In an
overabundance of caution, our district decided to enter a safety mode that limits movement
within our buildings for the remainder of the February 7, 2023, school day. Students will be
dismissed at the end of the day per their regular school schedule.

We encourage our students and school community to report anything that could be considered
a threat to school safety.  We work closely with public safety leaders and officers to assist in
these situations.

Thank you for your support and understanding in this important matter. Should you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (989) 754-1475.

Sincerely,
Tiffany L. Peterson, Ed.S.
Superintendent
