Dear Carrollton Cavalier Families,

Welcome October!  I bring positive greetings from the Central Office!  September has been an exciting time in Cavalier Nation, with so many great things happening in every building!  From the first days of school to the current Homecoming week, Carrollton Public Schools continues to show itself as the #DestinationDistrict, where every Cavalier matters!

The excitement about the school year continues to be strong all across our school community!  Students have settled into their routines and have become comfortable in the school setting. Teachers are focused on providing every student with opportunities for critical thinking.  As I visit classrooms and tour buildings, I am impressed by the levels of deep learning and engagement.  Also, I continue to be in awe of our amazing community - a host of great people, who are invested in and care about what is best for our kids!  Your dedication and support is appreciated and recognized at every level.  Thank you for your continued partnership!

In order to maintain this positive momentum, our first priority continues to be making sure our students and staff are safe when they are on our campuses, and that this safety is maintained at all times. One area of continuous improvement is parking lot safety, particularly in the elementary.  We realize the busyness of families.  However, the safety of students is our top priority.

In monitoring traffic in the parking lot, total time for pick-up and exiting takes about 10 - 12 minutes. Below are a few suggestions for a more positive experience when picking up your student(s) in the elementary parking lot:

  • Allow extra time - There are many vehicles in the parking lot so even a few more minutes make a difference.

  • Utilize parking spaces - Parking in a space helps to declutter and provide a moving traffic flow.

  • Be courteous and give grace - Assume positive intent and give grace to others.

  • Exercise patience - Plan for 10-12 minutes in the parking lot.

  • Keep the focus on safety - Every Cavalier Matters and their safety is THE top priority. Make sure your driving is an example of safety by following the traffic signs and patterns, and slowing down.

Let's continue to be a positive school community and make our district a safe environment for all.

Second only to school safety is academic achievement and social wellness for every student.  We continue working toward a restorative culture in every school.  To do this, our focus on MTSS (multi-tiered system of support) provides the foundation for every student to have success and come out of the pandemic stronger than ever before.  Teachers, administrators, and support staff know the value of working together with families to ensure every child is provided a quality educational experience that is grounded in critical thinking. We believe these practices can change the trajectory of our students’ lives and we look forward to working with families to ensure this takes place.

As we strengthen our home-school partnership, there are many ways you can become actively engaged in the school community.  Attending school activities is a great way to build relationships and support your child.  New in Carrollton Public Schools is the Director of Family and Community Engagement.  Mrs. Lindsay Bryce, whom many of you may know from her long career in Carrollton, is excited to engage with our students and families and support them in having the best school experience. You may look for communication from Lindsay in the next few weeks.  Should you wish to reach out or need something, her email address is lbryce@gocavs.net and she will be happy to help.

There are many exciting events happening in Carrollton Schools during the month of October.  All events are posted on our district website and in individual building communications to families. Below are a few highlights:

In closing, I want to remind all students and families of the importance of being present in and on time for school every day, but especially on Count Day.  On this important day, students all across the state of Michigan will be “counted” and have full membership on the official roster of the school in which they are enrolled.  For us, this means that when your student is marked present in every class on October 4th, they are officially counted as a Carrollton Public Schools student. Thank you in advance for making sure your student is counted on Count Day, October 4, 2023.

I continue to be honored to serve the Carrollton community.  Always know, you are important and you matter to me. Should you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to reach out to me. I would love to talk with you. I can be reached at (989) 754-1475 or via email at tpeterson@gocavs.net.

Sincerely,
